New to Junior Training?

For new juniors to the club, we operate the following basic guidelines for joining:
• 0 to 5 years: Sorry, we do not have any sessions for these ages. Many clubs will not accept children until they are 8-years-old.
• 6 to 8 years: FUNdamentals session (on Sunay). Once an athlete reaches the age of 9, they will have the opportunity to move up to a Foundation session.
• 9 to 12+ years: Foundation sessions (on Sunday and Thursday). Athletes may be transferred from a Foundation session to a Development group and have the opportunity to attend other development sessions e.g. throwing, jumping, etc. Such movement will be based on the athlete's ability, willingness to compete, space in target sessions and only if the athlete consents.
• 13 to 16 years: Please contact the club to discuss what will be best for the athlete.

In general, junior athletes should experience a wide range of athletic disciplines initially, and then many will choose to focus on specific events as they move through their teenage years e.g. sprints, endurance running, throwing and jumping.

Training Costs

From the 1st September 2018 a new junior training payment system will be in place. Click Junior Standing Order for more information.

Junior Development Pathway

Chorley Athletic and Triathlon club have adopted the UKA development pathway for its juniors. Training sessions have been devised to ensure junior athletes are offered as many athletic activities as possible i.e. running, jumping, throwing, cycling and swimming.

Click here to view the Junior Development Pathway.

When old enough to do so, juniors are expected to complete at least three times per year e.g. cross country, sportshall, track and field, multi-events, Astley Trail series, Daffodil Doddle, etc.

Waiting Lists

Due to popular demand, some of our junior training sessions are currently full. If you would like to go on the waiting list please email details (name, age, email) to juniors@chorley-athletic-and-triathlon.org. We have recently expaned our capability and capacity, so the waiting lists are much shorter than it has been for the last few years.

Juniors wishing to join the club must make contact with a coach or the waiting list manager before coming to any sessions.

Club Operational Guidelines

  • All athletes must be registered for each session that they attend.
  • All athletes must be collected from the training venue at the end of each training session. This is important so that we can avoid any safeguarding incidents.
  • If your child cannot attend any session you must report their non-attendance via juniors@chorley-athletic-and-triathlon.org. The register administrators will monitor all absences through this address.
  • As there is now a waiting list, we have introduced the rule as follows: If you do not attend for 4 weeks without notifying the club then your place will be offered to the next child on the waiting list.
  • All athletes are encouraged to compete in at least 1 club event each year. A full and varied list of events are available through the web site or attached to each newsletter. A separate email will be sent regarding events
  • All athletes should attend training session in club kit (i.e. t-shirt); this is subject to the availability of kit. These can be purchased several times during the year.
  • Any parents staying in the vicinity of the coached sessions must adhere to any coach instructions and cannot use any equipment capable of taking photographs.
  • Athletes should notify the coach of any injury immediately so that adjustments or plan B can be implemented. This may be that you attend another Team session or even sit it out. It is not worth making it worse.
  • Holidays

We will close for (these are subject to change and will be confirmed a month ahead nearer the time):

  • 2 weeks at Christmas and New Year (according to school holidays)
  • Bank Holidays.
  • Easter from Maunday Thursday to past that Bank Holiday.
  • Summer TBC
