A glorious, warm morning for the Cuerden Park 5K run impacted some runners time, but Chorley runners Chris Charnley and Martin Quinn just missed PBs taking 4th and 5th place. However, Michael Hendry ran well for a new PB of 23:29, some 30s in front of Simon Townsend. Next came the juniors of Finty Royle and Joe Bowles, just a head of a PBs for Stephen Baker, Jane Bowles and John Minton. Completing the team was Les Paul, Tom Hilton and Mike Coppin.

It's the 2nd Northern Track and Field event at Wigan next Saturday. Any one 15+ is eligible to compete in this team even, so we need runners, throwers, jumpers and officials. In particular, male or female runners that fancy getting PBs in 1500m or 5K/3K would be most welcome. Please contact me for more information (sp_townsend@hotmail.com). Oh, and it is also a great fun/social afternoon out too.

Three Chorley athletes took part in arguably the hardest fell race of the year; The Old County Tops which covers 37 miles and 10,000ft of ascent/descent. It starts and finishes in the lovely Lakeland valley of Langdale, taking in the summits of Helvellyn, Scafell Pike and Coniston Old Man. The race requires runners to run in pairs for the full duration.
Chorley duo of Darren Fishwick and Mark Ellithorn partnered up and finished 28th in just over 9hrs. Chorley's Tony Marlow partnered Josie Greenhalgh of Horwich Harriers and finished just a few minutes later, winning 2nd mixed team for their amazing achievement. All runners agreed in was tough going in the heat and were thankful for the breeze on the higher ground.
The following day Darren found enough energy to race at Glaramara fell race, 5 miles 2300ft ascent/descent, he finished 9th despite tired legs.

Great opportunities for some mid-week racing next week...
Haigh Hall (4) is the next Central Lancs Grand-prix fixture, Wednesday (14th) at 7.30pm.
http://www.wiganphoenix.org.uk/documents/74-Haigh-Hall-4M-form-2014.doc
The route is just a couple of laps around Haigh Hall park (4 miles), so a good 'training race' option for those new to racing, or anyone (like me) trying to improve on recent form.
Also one of our closest CLGP fixtures so we could do with a large Chorley contingent - we're currently languishing in 10th position.
http://centrallancsgp.weebly.com/2014-standings.html
The following evening is Lytham interclub - see Tom's message below.
