Next Sunday, 6 October, sees the final Grand Prix event of the season at Gin Pit village (11 am start = lie in!).
Gin Pit is a bizarre little mining village close to Tyldesley (car sharing advised).

At the popular Parkrun events three club members took on the Cuerden Valley course with Jonathon Burgess leading the club home in 23:30 followed by Mike Hendry (25:11) and Dave Kershaw (32:30). Whilst in Preston, Warren Crook produced an excellent performance to clock 22:01.

Well done to the 4 juniors who competed at Blackpool T&F open today. Holly Brookes U15 got another PB in javelin and achieved bronze in javelin & discus. Georgia Martin U15 wasn't on best form, but happy to be competing after recent injuries. Ben Hughes U13 won gold in first ever 1500m, with 200m straight after where he came 6th. Jack came a good 9th in 600m and smiled through his least favourite events 80m and long jump. Cross country & SportsHall season now!

Me again - The entry on the day applies to everyone, not just seniors but juniors too. Anyone who was given a form last week at training will need to enter on the day and not via the team manager as we have done in years previously. The first race is on Saturday and forms have been around for a number of weeks and they are on the web site.

The Red Rosé cross country starts on Saturday 28th Sept. I have entered as many people as I had names on the online reg. but as Stan was away on holiday I don't think I had everyone's forms. This means you will have to enter on the day and the cost will be £6 as the reg system has changed this year-managers don't have spare numbers. If you want to know if you are pre entered please contact me. Don't assume that you are-you will not get a number without paying.

At the British Master's Championship for Track and Field held at Birmingham, 2 Chorley athletes made the trip to the Alexander Stadium. John Wright placed 7th in a strong 200m final. Rick Cordwell also coming 7th in the 100m and sixth overall in the 200m despite finishing 2nd in his race.
A disappointing 5th in the long jump was made up for after personal best in the triple jump enabled him to bring home a silver medal narrowly missing out on gold.

What undoubtedly is the performance of the week took place in one of the toughest of environments! Joe Duckworth outperformed many a professional at the Ironman Triathlon in Wales and his performance was so good he qualified for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, in October 2014. He finished 39th overall out of the 1600 size field and was ranked 8th in the (40-45) age group. Club Chair Daryl Peter commented " This has to be one of the performances of the year by a Chorley member and to qualify for Hawaii is an outstanding performance reflecting the dedication and hard work Joe puts into his training. Brilliant!".

In an off road Triathlon at Oban, Scotland, Nicola Ingram finished 18th female. Other triathletes competed in one of the toughest events at Helvellyn Tri on Sunday. Consisting of a very chilly 14 degrees swim in Ullswater over 1 mile followed by a 39 mile bike ride up over the Kirkstone Pass to sample the delights of the Lake District with finally a 9 mile fell run up Helvellyn and back. Chris Hays finished in 4hrs 35 mins with Jenni Boocock next in 5hrs 13 mins and finally with Nicki Rushton 4hrs 43 mins and 8th lady overall and 4th female vet 40 home.

In the Kentmere Horseshoe Fell race held in gorgeous weather , 4 Chorley athletes produced sparkling performances led home in 45th place by Y Bennison in 1hr 56:49 mins with Dawn Atkins clocking 2 hrs 5:05, Andrew Clough 2 hrs 9 mins and Graham Schofield 2 hrs 39 mins. The previous week at Hesket Newmarket Show Fell Race, Dawn claimed first female home for the 8.4miles race in 1 hr 11:54 mins with Graham Schofield first vet 60 producing a scintillating run to clock 1 hrs 20:34 mins!

It was good to have the youngsters back at the final Inter-Club road race at Worden Park(4.2) where Adam Sciacca(7th) and brother Ryan(25th) were effective in helping Chorley gain 4th team position. Dave Biddulph(36th), Martin
Quinn(40th) & Dave Parkinson(43rd) were the chasers keeping ahead of the next bunch lead by Paul Wareing(61st), Phil Iddon(63rd), Josie Hull(67th), Mark Bond(69th) and Ainsley Murphy(72nd). New boy Chris Charnley did really well in 88th position with Allan Blackwell(91st) & Dave Kershaw(105th) for company. Simon Townsend(116th) & Marco Sciacca(120th) were next followed by Lindsey Hill(133rd), Steven Wilde(141st), Alison Parkinson(144th), Christine Sweatman(147th), Phil McCullagh(149th), Anya Townsend(151st) & John Minton(155th). Jackie Shore(163rd) lead in Les Paul(175th) & Mike Coppin(180th). Josie(Jnr), Christine(L55) & John(V70) were all first in their classes with Adam & Ryan being 2nd & 3rd JM

The latest Central Lancs Grand Prix race at Pennington Flash(5) was celebrated by only 7 Chorley athletes instead of our agreed 10 input, which was disappointing. In the large field Paul Wareing was 64th followed by 3rd V55 Dave Kershaw(89th) and Simon Townsend(100th). Christine Sweatman(155th) was 2nd L55 pushed by Phil McCullagh(163rd) and prize winner(1st Jnr) Anya Townsend(166th), rounded out by Mike Coppin(198th).

Congratulations to Darren Fishwick and Andrew Clough on completing the Ben Nevis fell race. The weather was perfect - Darren finished 60th overall out of almost 500 runners, in a time of 1 hour and 58 minutes and Andrew did 2 hours and 35 minutes, well done you two!!
