John Payn, Chorley's International race walker, decided to celebrate his 80th birthday by walking a 'social' 80K around an Adlington course based from his home. It was nice that family, friends and Club members all turned up throughout the day so that John was never alone which of course meant that he had to maintain a more sober pace than he would normally do to allow all to keep up with him. Richard Robb who is coached by John walked 40K with his mentor. John's time was 14hrs 10mins and he is collecting for Derian House should anyone wish to donate.

It's the last Interclub this Wednesday in Leyland. All runners that are going to the cricket club after the race, pls park on the Tesco car park, as there is a private function on and we are not allowed to use their car park.

Are the club considering entering teams for the forthcoming road relays ? I would have thought that we could now get U13s teams out for both boys and girls as they are 3 per team. From what I can remember (from many years ago) they are a good event and something different. The Lancashire one is 15th Sept at Lancaster; North on 21st Sept at Blackpool - closing dates for both of these are 9th Sept; there's even the National at Sutton Park (Birmingham) on 15th Oct. Junior coaches / secretaries - thoughts ?

The Entry Form states for one club memeber to collect all for their club then distribute them, so presumably whoever gets there first !

I think you pick them up on the day (from memory).

John Payn our head coach & international race walker is celebrating his 80th birthday with an 80K walk from his house in Carrington Rd(No.101?), Adlington on Sunday 25th August where he has a 1 mile loop which he is going to do 50 times starting from 07:30 in the morning to mid-afternoon ?. It would be nice if people could go and give him some support for a bit. He is collecting for Derian House(?).

Tracey...for the XC meetings all you need to do is turn up at the appropriate time and you will be issued with your race nos. which you keep for the season. There are 3 leagues Red Rose, Mid-Lancs & SE Lancs plus the Lancs, the Northern & the national...about 16 races if you have the energy and there are no clashes. The Mid Lancs is paid by the Club, Red Rose & SE Lancs each cost about £3( for 4 races each). The Lancs, Northern & National need to be entered individually near the time (after Xmas) and you will be advised then. One of the MLs XC races is the REbok in Liverpool which is run in conjunction with UKA with athletes looking for national selection, so we all run against the best in the country which is an interesting experience! I hope this answers any questions you may have.

Red Rose U11 races are usually about a mile - sometimes slightly more, sometimes slightly less and generally reasonably flat. They are a good introduction to X-country, a wide range of abilities and there's usually quite a good turn-out.

Shaun Wareing(29th) was our first counter in the Chorley hosted Inter-Club road race(4.8) in Astley Park chased by Briony Curtis(40th), Joe Allman(44th), Paul Wareing(51st), Bill Beckett(53rd), Josie Hull(55th) & Mark Bond(60th). Allan Blackwell was 74th, Henry Minorczyk(88th) & Mick McGeown(94th). The battle of the V70s continued with Ted Orrell(122nd) & John Swift(127th) sandwiching Christine Sweatman(125th) between them. Les Paul(148th) beat a trotting Paul Jackson(155th) and sweeper Steven Wilde(157th). The Chorley ladies were all winners with Briony the 1st lady, Josie 4th but 1st Jnr and Christine 1st L55 and would have been team winners if having more support. The men could not quite match the ladies but Ted was 1st & John 2nd V70s, Henry 2nd V65 and 3rds for Paul Wareing(V50) & Les(V65). The Chorley team was 5th.

The Inter-Club fell race at the horrendously steep Farleton Knott(4.5) had Darren Fishwick(18th) produce an amazing run after he had done the hard Borrowdale(17) classic race the day before followed by an equally good effort from Briony Curtis(43rd) only failing to be 2nd lady by 1sec. Bill Beckett(54th) loved the race ahead of Nicki Rushton(78th) who was 1st L45 with Graham Schofield(81st) following as 3rd V60. Simon Townsend(93rd) came next with 1st V70 John Minton(104th) before Henry Minorczyk(116th) and finally Mike Coppin(126th).

The club's priority should be to support tomorrow's T+F meet at Hyndburn, but are any other runners thinking of trying the new Cuerden Park Run at 9 am? I may try to shuffle round it as part of a recovery from injury... http://www.parkrun.org.uk/cuerdenvalley
