Chorley's John Payn went off-road to walk the 10 mile John O'Gaunt Challenge which was hilly & extremely muddy (which John detests!) and with a couple of bulls to keep him moving at top speed saw him first back in 2hrs 50mins.

There's a fun event for juniors on Sunday if they're not too tired from Cross country on Saturday, at Haworth. Apparently this is where the Brownlees first started, & as Alistair was only 4th at U12, there's a chance for any of you to go on to greater things if you want to! The Curly Wurly Rat run at the Quarry (the coldest place on earth according to Anna Maria), start from 10.30am. Can't promise we'll be there, but if the weather's fine, & legs aren't too tired, I'm sure Ben & Jack will do anything for a bar of chocolate!
http://woodentops.org.uk/index.php?topic=withins&subtopic=home Fancy dress optional & all abilities are encouraged to give it a go.

Paul Jackson and myself travelled down to chouch Stretton and the Long Mynd area of Shropshire with a group of our Fell runners, to take part in the UK Fell Race Championships.
We met Darren Fishwick there who had competed the previous day in the Langdale Horseshoe race.
Darren was first off on leg one, handing over to Gary Platt and Dawn Atkins for leg 2. They in turn were followed by Lyn Chouigh and Briony Curtis on the navigation leg with Keith Johnson bringing the team home on leg 4.
Paul and myself walked/trotted part of the course and to say it was tortuous is an unstatement, with long extremely steep ascents and descents, and it's a huge credit to every one of our runners for getting round and doing the club proud to finish in a total time of 4hrs 34min 01 sec in 73rd place out of the 154 that started.

World International race walker and senior coach, John Payn, undertook the tortuous Macclesfield 10K (aka the Macclesfield Shield) in sunny but very chilly conditions. John swept to victory on this notoriously hilly course claiming both the vet 70 as well as vet 75 title in 71:23 mins. John's protégé Richard Robb outpaced his mentor to finish 10th in 71:05

Start is 19:00, and food serving time TBC. Not sure about about a discounted family ticket because of the catering costs already negotiated, but will ask organisers.

Is there a family ticket price? Would be helpful to know what time it's going to start & what time the food will be for those families that want to attend. Thanks. Sounds fun though! ;)

The joy of our teams success on Sunday in the Ian Hodgson Fell Relays was mixed with concern for a member of the Pennine club, Daz Holloway, who collapsed during the last leg, between Hart Grag and St. Sunday Crag.
I have just learned that Daz tragically lost his life.
Darren Fishwick knew him well and spoke with him before the start of their leg.
I am sure we all have thoughts for his family and friends, and I have posted a message on the FRA website.

Mid Lancs XC Burnley postcode is BB11 3RQ. You may need to pay for the park's car park. The course is mainly on playing fields, so spikes are a good choice. Good luck to all runners.

It's the Mid Lancs XC at Burnley tomorrow. I have some vests to buy or borrow. Please let me know if you need one so that I can get to the event early if necessary.

Anyone missing a black lightweight rain jacket after training on Tuesday night at Duxbury? It's currently drying out at my house. I'll put it in the car so it should be at track on Thursday or training next Mon/Tuesday.

Buttermere Triathlon: took on the mighty challenge of buttermere tri on a sunny fresh autumn day. Never swam in a lake so cold, that was a breeze compared to the massive climb of Honister pass before cruising through the Borrowdale valley and then taking on the climb of whinlatter! After that was the tough 8 mile run around crummock water it was like 8 mile of xc. Legs burning heart racing awesome day and the most scenic tri I've done. To top it all I got 1st vet lady and 4 th overall in a great time of 3:45:26. One to do next year for sure.

Just seen the results from today's cross country. Fantastic results everyone. Well done particularly to all the juniors who've taken the plunge for the first time, (and enjoyed it from the sounds of it!). 3rd place team U11 boys & 5th for U11 girls - you've made us all very proud! Good luck to those Juniors doing Arnold Seddon Track & Field tomorrow.

My first individual race for 5.5 years.
Too short and fast, but the ladies kept me going. Loved it.
Well done to all who ran and big thanks to our supporters
