The 1st xc of the season is usually quite dry but it looks like we may need waders with spikes or a snorkel and flippers to get round the golf course at Leigh on Saturday!

XC. The Red Rose league has voted that the 65yr olds & over will run with the senior women rather than men, so be prepared for Saturday. I do not know whether this is mandatory, ie if you wished to run with the men and count in the team this may be possible, but presumably you would not qualify for a v65+ prize ; best to confirm your position with Anna-Maria before you set-off.

Those asking about distances for the cross country season, here's the Red Rose ones. Mid Lancs is very similar, and your coaches will advise if you have any queries or concerns. It's looking like the biggest Junior team we've seen for a while, so good luck to you all. Have fun!

The Great Westmorland Trail(8 was contested by Graham Schofield 72nd(69:29) and the Paras(10) race used by the Army as a parachute regiment selection race at Catterick Garrison over very tough terrain by Vicky Brindle(122mins) & husband Simon(81mins).

Chorley's athletic community had high expectations for the award of the Les Rogerson trophy by the Lancashire Athletic Association for the best county athletic performance for the year 2012 for Graeme Ballard, as not only had he set a world record in qualifying for the Paralympics, but his most notable opposition of fellow selectees of Helen Clitheroe, Carl Myerscough, Holly Bleasdale and Sophie Hitchen were all excluded as having won this trophy in the last five years. As it turned out Graeme's performance was the best anyway with a Olympic silver medal in London.
Chorley's Mike Coppin submitted then names of Graeme Ballard and Luke Betts for consideration by the awards committee, but unfortunately the trophy was awarded to another North West athlete.
Thanks to Mike Coppin for his hard work in compiling and submitting the two entries.

Two 'diehard' Chorley athletes elected to tackle the Pennington Flash 5 mile trail race instead of the Farmers Arms 10K race held on the same day. Vet Paul Wareing finished in 44th position (8th V45) in 33:19, and Michael Hendry completed the course in 77th place (37.05).

The Burnsall(10) road race saw Martin Quinn(29th) and Paul Jackson(36th) competing, with Paul immediately afterwards competing in the Burnsall fell race(1.5) easing into 118th equal place. Ben Hughes, age 10, came 9th at Burnsall Fell in the U12 race enduring the September heat on Sunday. The course was a mixture of bog and hard ground as all developing athletes, he found it tough going!

I'm trying to get all the admin up to date for all Juniors this weekend so we can see if we can slot some of our big waiting list into our sessions. If anyone has ANY questions at all about the Junior section, please ask. AND if any Junior fancies a fell run on Sunday, I'm taking Ben to Burnsall, so happy to help you through. Registration on the day & forecast looks good! ;)
