Hi to all primary/junior athletes ; anyone who is intereste in competing at the Arnold Seddon Memorial meeting at Robin Park, Wigan Sunday 30th Sept please speak to me or T-J if you need any more information.
This is a well attended meeting and a good experience for anyone to 'give it a go' as a first competition.
We will have some fun as a club and everyone will be very supportive; so 'come along' and enjoy the day.
Many thanks

The Inter-Club fell race at Chipping Show(8m) operated in foul weather with only 7 Chorley athletes fighting for the honours. Darren Fishwick was a very good 4th with Hassan Khattab chasing hard in 12th. Nicki Rushton(36th) was 2nd lady pushed by Dave Kershaw(41st) trailed by Graham Schofield(56th), Phil McCullagh(57th) and Tom Hilton(60th) all giving Chorley 6th team place. In the Inter-Club series Chorley were 4th overall but won the vet 60s category with Tom Hilton the star.

Cockerham Sprint Triathlon. After a few heavy showers to create some deep mud, we dived into the farmers lake before jumping on mountain bikes and then a trail run to finish. Julian Goudge finished in 10th place (1h 6 m 52 s) having been the fastest on the run section.

International race walker John Payn decided on a 'walk in pastures new' for a change opting for a low key race in Cleveland in the NE where he mixed it with the locals who were better than him uphill and thro' the woods but could not compete with John's flat speed. In true diplomatic fashion a gentle finish to come equal 1st place accomplished by John.

Thank you to all of you who either ran or helped out at Chorley's Inter-Club race last night which made my task as race Officer so much easier. We had both a police and a UKA inspection at this race which I am confident that all you marshalls/helpers will have allowed us to pass both. Also must mention Anna Maria's cakes which went down a storm such that I never got to taste, but Lytham wished me to pass on that the chocolate one was particularly scrumptious !!

As a new & growing club we still have lots of things to put in place & a lot more volunteers to recruit and train. Can I ask any Junior parents with any concerns or comments to email them to us so we can bring issues to the next committee meeting in September? As Junior Secretary we've done a lot of work since May, but we know there is more to be done. ALL volunteers and club members need to work together to support the 130+ Junior section we currently have supported by 12 coaches. We welcome discussion & openess, and if there are things that need to be done better next time please let us know so we can sort it. nandtj@gmail.com

This is the last message on the subject, there seems to be a lot of blame being bandied about, especially at parents. I am letting you know I am a parent of the child that went to the mid lancs I have volunteered my time and help, all we ask is when my daughter or any other child from the club is asked to go to run to represent the club at fixtures then someone from the club be there and make themselves known, and Ian, you were not at the stadium when we were there, both my husabnd and I walked around three times looking for someone from Chorley. It wont happen again, do not ask then there isn't a problem.

by the way while having a look on the mid lancs web site please see what oficials are needed from the club to run the events all clubs are finding it hard to find these officials and without them then there will be no events i have done this for many years even though i get up 6am and go to work on a saturday i have rushed around like the previous sun again i had to in in the morning so anyone who wants to make a differance please contact the club and help out i knew about the problemon saturday but the web site was not the place to air these views but having read them i felt i needed to reply like wise

just to make it clear now that i will be away on holiday for the last mid lancs medal meet on the 25th if anyone needs to know about the events or meetings they can go to the web site link to the mid lancs it tells you about the order of the events but you must remember that even coaches have no say in when the events take place there is an order but if a lot of athletes turn up then the events can run later and if really busy the last events can be cancelled

Simon, good shout, not sure when we will attend any more, if we do, will check first.
Ian, Totally understand how busy the Coaches are, I for one would not able to commit so much time. Did not see you Saturday or would have come over and said 'Hi'. I certainly was not 'complaining' merely stating how we felt which i thought was our right as members of the club? I Won't bother posting any more at the risk of 'offending' anyone which would never be my intention.

Ian
Can people please remember that our coaches do this VOLUNTARILY and have other commitments outside of athletics.
FYI there were 3 other Chorley athletes competing, including 1 senior (me). If I had seen others from Chorley during the day I would have offered some assistance (as I did with one of the juniors but they had managed to sort themselves out so didn't need any help).
Personally I find it quite offensive for people to be complaining about this....

Re: Mid Lancs Track event. I know many coaches were away on holiday, and also the week before we(Chorley) hosted a Track and Field full day event in Preston(a lot of effort from all coaches and other helpers). I would suggest that athletes consult with their coach at training to confirm who will be there or not.

Well said Chris!! I turned up and was grateful to see you at least you where there Chris :o) Joe did the 1500m, which was his first experience of a Mid Lancs Track event, would have been better a Coach had been there to advise on tactics and where to warm up, when he would be running et sec - all of which we had to work out ourselves. We are very grateful for the Plethora of Coaches at training Nights but surely the actual Races themselves warrant the attendance of the coaches? not sure if Saturday was a one off but as Chris says was a shame no one showed up :o)

Come on all you older members, coaches and runners, where were you all today at the Mid Lancs, Three young runners arrived and not a single person there to greet them, no one from the club to cheer them on. Every other runner had the full support from thier club members, but the young chorley runners had nothing, shame on all of you!!

The midweek Astley Park(4.4) race in memory of blind runner Mike Ogle had a big 200 plus field with Paul Wareing(37th) leading home the Chorley runners with pretty even gaps to Jonathan Higson(41st), Dave Biddulph(50th), Andrew Clough(56th), Dawn Atkins(64th), Robert Mayor(81st) and Steve Williams(85th). A tight group of Liam Boardman(104th), Mark Bond(107th) and Jonathan Burgess(108th) then followed trailed by Lea Verrechio-Nelson(122nd). Nicki Rushton was 144th, Anya Townsend(183rd) just ahead of dad Simon(184th) with James Shuttleworth(194th) and Tom Hilton(203rd). Chorley was 6th team in both men & women. Anya was 1st J17, Dawn 2nd lady, Lea 3rd jnr with Paul & Nicki both 4th V45s. Evan Cook of Blackburn Harriers is the first holder of the Mike Ogle trophy. Chorley won the series from St Helens with Lea being the only constant Chorley athlete as 2nd lady and 1st Jnr.

John Payn is getting back into race walking action with the Simister(20K) on a very windy and rainy day setting himself a 2.5 hr target he whizzed thro' the first 10K then died on the 2nd ending crawling into 10th place but within his target with 2:28:36. Needless to say he was 1st V75.
