The results for the final SportsHall event are finally up

An ever increasing array of other races saw Tom Hilton achieve 24th(169:04) place in the Garstang Muddy Boots(11), Darren Fishwick 19th(41:44) in Darwen's Mr Sparkles(10K) night race, Daniel Edwards 168th(93:09) out of 1100 in the Blackpool Great NW(HM) with Gary Platt 82nd(74:02), Liam Boardman 134th(81:07) and Tom Hilton 251st(106:05) completing the Radcliffe(10) in Manchester.

In the NW area colleges championships at Witton Park, Blackburn two of our athletes Luke Betts(2nd) & Ryan Sciacca(8th) running for Lancashire made the NW of England team to compete nationally at Bath University. Adam Sciacca(11th) was unlucky to just miss out in a biggish field with a rather cruel 3 ascents of the famous 'saucer'.

The SE Lancs XC awards presentation was held at the RMI Club, Horwich and Chorley's Fergus Tallon carried off the 1st U15 award being our only winner as a clash with our own XC ruled out most of the remaining contestants leaving only Fergus, Scott Gouldthorpe(10th) and Phil McCullagh(25th) as qualifiers.

The colleges race at witton park, Blackburn on Wednesday 2 runners made the Northwest team. Luke (2nd) and Ryan (8th). They will now travel to Bath uni for the national college xc race. Adam just missed out in 11th place but a great run in his first year! with 50 plus taking part and doing 3 laps of the saucer before lunch, mid week!!!

The Standish Hall Trail(10K) saw 7 athletes competing but with Graham Schofield unwell during the race only 6 finished with Julian Goudge in a very tidy 8th place, Paul Wareing(36th) very pleased to get the better of Darren Fishwick(39th) and the older contingent of Barry Chester(127th) with Tom Hilton(231st) just catching Mike Coppin(234th) before the end. Julian secured 3rd vet40 and Barry 2nd vet60 - both prize winners.

'The previously postponed Blackburn Winter Warmer(10K) from Blackburn's Witton Park had a new athlete Breton Holdsworth leading the Chorley team home in 20th place just outpacing Michael Chalfont(22nd) by a few seconds. David Parkinson(3rd V45) in 46th and Michael Hendry(137th) ran strongly behind before Marion Wilkinson(226th) who was the first lady V70 and Rachael Clarke(238th). In the junior race the Monk brothers claimed some honours with Joe(5th overall) winning the B14 category and Tom 4th in the B9s.

The local Anglezarke(race/walk) had John Payn opting for the 16 mile(rather than the 25) and wishing he had not bothered as the course was fiendishly icy and he finished in a time over 6 hours(in which he would normally cover the 25 version easily !) having suffered a fall and hurting his back.

On the roads Steven Wilde(52:59) and Elund Smith(54:45) doing her first ever race, slunk off to Llandudno(10K) where they both finished in the top half of the field.

A large group of Chorley runners opted for the local Winter Hill(11) fell race gaining a fantastically good set of results with Dominic Raby(7th) overall and Mark Ellithorn(20th & 2nd V45) only a tadge behind. The ladies had tremendous runs led by Lynne Clough(54th & 4th lady), Natasha Fellowes(66th), Jacqueline Redmayne(75th) and Nicki Rushton(88th) being punctured by Julian Gouge(62nd), Darren Fishwick(67th) and Paul Jackson(72nd) with the only one really to suffer being Steve Thomas(172nd). In the ladies Lynne, Natasha & Jacqueline swept the awards table with the first three places in the FV40s with Nicki chipping in as the 2nd V45.

Chorley athlete Iain Gouldthorpe went to the Northern Indoor Masters at Sheffield where he took part in his first pentathlon of 60m(11:44), long jump(5.14), shot putt(7.69), high jump(1.54) & 1000m(3:35) being 5th(2200 points) overall only 2 points shy of 4th & 40 points from bronze ; it was a long day in a very dry atmosphere but with no injuries !!

A group of Chorley renegades abandoned the Mid-Lancs XC event at Barrow to undertake the local Parbold Hill(7) race where first home was Darren Fishwick in a very good 51st place from a huge field pursued by Andrew Clough(75th), Graham Schoffield(190th) with Michael Hendry(207th) challenging. Despite a heavy cold Barry Chester(261st) seemed to have a good race with Tom Hilton making it home in 474th place.

First Aid Course - Chorley Sports Forum are running a free course on Friday 9th March(09:00 to 16:30) and would be delighted for any club member to take advantage particularly anyone who marshalls, volunteers etc. CAC cannot host races unless we have a certain no. of 1st aiders in attendance so such certification is important to us. Please contact myself, John Payn or Terry Dickenson.

Made it to Sheffield (just!). Ended up with an OK 11.44 in 60 hurdles, below average long jump of 5.14 nowhere near the board, 7.69 in first ever shot (they are heavy!!), massive pb in high jump with 1.54 narrowly failing at 1.57, then struggled round 5 laps for a 3.35 1000m. Ended up 5th with 2200, only 2 points behind 4th and 60 behind bronze. Very enjoyable (but long) day :-)
