Phil Iddon has mentioned that there may be some interest in creating a Triathlon or at least multi disciplined Grand Prix to slot in with the existing road, xc, fell etc Grand Prix.
I think its worth batting some ideas about and so perhaps anyone interested in helping create a plan to make it happen could email me? ainsleymurphy@me.com
Maybe we could meet at the cricket club after a Thursday session and lubricate our imaginations.

Yes, thank you Yewan for marshaling at the Chorley XC on Saturday, I am extremely sorry for missing you off the marshaling eulogy as I had failed to note you on the marshaling list. Thank you Bill for pointing this out.

Fantastic xc at Astley park on saturday . I'm sure I saw Yewan marshaling in the woods or it might just have been an apparition :-)

Well we got away with it - just !! The Chorley XC in Astley park was again very popular with 780 runners(407 being U20), 52 from Chorley, but was run against a backdrop of very few Club members turning up to marshal! I have to give tremendous thanks to the set-up team of Stan & Barbara, Simon and Gilly and the technical marshals Anna-Maria, Maurice & Kath Townsend who got all the different turns for each age group race right thus keeping all the runners on course and doing their correct distances, plus Janet & Holly Brookes, Ian Gouldthorpe, Babs Houghton and Carl Prince for marshaling the field. The woods ideally need 12 marshals, fully staffed, yet was magnificently covered by a capable 5 of Stephe Fletcher, Andy Lowe, Helen Hendry, Alan Sweatman & Gilly(who even dived into the river to remove a mountain of rocks). All the marshals also did a fantastic clean-up effort bringing in all the stakes, boards & miles of tape such that I only had a miniscule clear up mto do on my post round today. I also did a litter-pick around the pavilion/tent/start/finish areas to ensure Chorley could not be blamed for litter tho' I am certain that most collected had a non-athletic origin. Last for thanks is Adrian Smith who did policing duties in Astley Village carpark to prevent recurrence of the complaints of last year. Finally thanks to everyone who has assisted me over the last 32 years including this last organisational role for the Club as I am now past my sell-by date and am finding it all too much of a strain(the wife agrees !!).
The initial feedback from all the runners/Clubs seems to be that the event was a success and that Red Rose League were very happy with the Chorley effort. Thanks Mike C.

Enjoyable 4 hours this afternoon with Mike C, Stan and Barbara setting up for tomorrow's Red Rose Cross Country. The going is very wet and slippy (confirmed by me landing on my backside), so spikes or good fell shoes recommended. We need as many helpers on the day, so if you can spare a few hours please meet at the Pavilion at between 11:30 and 11:45. Good Luck to all runners. Simon

Chorley XC - Astley Park - Saturday 8/11/14. Can I please ask for the assistance of all in either running or marshaling this event. The first race is at 12:15 so marshall meeting from 11:30 at the pavilion in the park. Also CBC have asked us to post a marshal in the Astley Village carpark to avert improper car parking(there were apparently complaints last year) and to direct cars onto Lancashire College when the carpark is full. Is there anybody who volunteers for this moment of authority ? 12:00 to 14:00.

Big thanks to Terry for a fantastic race through the villages today
( how did you get the sun organised)?

Given the earlier poor weather forecast, this year's "Villages" was run in almost perfect conditions around the roads of the West Pennine Moors. A group of three soon took an early lead going up the hill from the start and had comfortably broken away from the following pack by the 2 mile stage.
Preston Harrier David Rigby tried to pull away but was very closely tracked by Richard Howarth (Horwich) and unattached Halifax based runner Nathaniel Williams. This tracking proved decisive on the fast descent to the finish of this gruelling course were Williams made his move to create a 44 second gap over Rigby to finish in 46:06. Vet40 Howarth had a superb run to finish third overall in 48:22 and claim the first vet title.
Eight times winner Vet55 Paul Muller (Horwich) yet again finished in the top ten and has now completed 25 Villages Races, this time in 51:54. Chorley's Dave Kershaw had a superb run to finish 3rd vet55 (62:48) and clubmate David Miller secured 3rd vet60 with an excellent time of 67:25.
Darwen's Joanne Nelson was in scintillating form to finish within the first twenty overall, first female and first female veteran in 55:32 with
Catherine Slater 2nd (Preston) clocking 58:06 and Spectrum Striders Alison Draper 3rd in 61:42. FV35 Fabienne Richmond (Clayton Le Moors) finished only 16 seconds behind, but two and half minutes ahead of Wigan Phoenix's Emma Louise Weall. Anne Ferguson FV55 (Burnden) had a superb run to time 66:17.
Team honours went to: Open Men - Swinton trio of Clark, Parkin and Tucker with Tri Preston next. Veteran men honours Horwich trio of Howarth,Muller and Kay with Chorley Athletic and Triatlon Club 2nd led home by Phil Iddon closely followed by Ainsley Murphy and David Parkinson. First female team honours went to Clayton Le Moors Richmond, Terry and Rushton with Darwen second.
The organiser Heapey and Wheelton Village Hall would like to thank RAYNET, St. Johns, UK Results (John Schofield),Lancashire Constabulary, all helpers, marshals and especially Sweatshop, Steve Turner of the Dressers Arms and Tony Bolton Sports for their generous sponsorship.

Chorley are hosting the next Red Rose XC event in Astley Park next week. As well as runners, we will need support with Marshals and other helpers. The races start at 12:15, so if you want to held please meet at the Pavilion at 11:30 to 11:45. Many thanks.

Hi Stuart - Been away for 1/2 so I've only just seen your message re helpers tomorrow. Thru' the Village is promoted and organised by the Wheelton and Heapey Village charity committee rather than the Club, so they will fix up officials etc. That said, if you are around to help or support then I'm sure they would be happy for it. Good luck to runners - I'm still down with a virus!

There is a Saturday ride for anyone interested that leaves at 8am from the Fieldfare pub in Chorley PR7 1NY. This is not a coached session and is more of a social ride, and can sometimes even include coffee I believe.
I've kind of jumped on the back of this ride after going out last weekend with Ian & Dave but both agree, the more the merrier.
You are looking at being out for between 2-3 hrs and covering 30-50 mile. There are plenty of loops locally though so you can always peel off or extend at your leisure.
This weekend is on but I will post here to confirm each week. I hope that there will be plenty of interest as the weeks go by and that we can start to build sessions for those interested Triathlon and Duathlon as the club name suggests.
Can someone please paste this into Facebook for me as I am still suffering from Facebookaphobia.
Cheers
Ainsley

INTER-CLUB. The 2015 meeting (there is only one a year) to agree next years programme is on Mon 3rd November at 19:00 in the Lea Gate Hotel on Blackpool Road, Clifton, and a volunteer is yet to come forward to take up the Chorley representative post. Is there anybody prepared to do this? I have all the papers and will advise wherever required. Currently there are 6 Clubs in the I/C series but there is a motion at the meeting for another Club (Thornton Clevelys) to join, so the obvious fear if Chorley is not represented is that this other Club will be accepted in lieu of Chorley. This would mean that 6 quality evening road races and 4 fell races would disappear from our calendar for Chorley athletes.

Does anyone have the postcode for Hyndburn XC? And/or is anyone up for car sharing on the day??

Hyndburn XC races start at 12:30 and finish with senior men at 14:30. Runners requiring numbers should look for Stan who Jewell who will be there from 11:30. The tent may or may not be there, but changing rooms are really good at the venue.

Hi All,
What time does the XC in Hyndburn start on Saturday and what is the latest time I need to get down?
Cheers
2014-10-22
Simon
It is the 1st Midlancs XC race on Saturday at Hyndburn. Unfortunately due to other commitments Mike, Richard and I will not be there, and therefore cannot arrive early and setup and take down the tent. Pls contact me if you are able to take the tent. Hyndburn has good changing rooms, so that lack of a tent would not be too bad.
