Most of you will be aware that after 32 yrs both my effective organisational and running abilities have now totally disapated and I am thus retiring. As such leaders will be needed for (i)the Inter-Club races - 2015 meeting on 3rd November at Lea Gate - I have the papers, and (ii)Great Hill fell race - race submission needs to be in by the end of Oct for the FRA 2015 calendar - again I have the papers.
Unless volunteers come forward these races will be lost to the Club in the future. I will remain available to help and assist whoever if asked.

Another error re the Leigh XC results in the U11Gs where Emma Jeffers(40th) had a great first ever race to be a vest behind Isabelle Farron on the same time. She had also been entered as Clayton-le-Moors. I think everyone who ran should check that they have been entered as Chorley and not Clayton. Any errors please let Stan Jewell or myself know.

Thanks to all Junior & Senior members, parents and coaches for giving Chorley a great start to the 2014/15 XC season. Some new faces at both junior & senior levels added substance to the Chorley team, and was appreciated. With the hopeful return of some regular runners at Hyndburn for the 1st Mid-Lancs meeting, and a repeat performance that we witnessed at Leigh, Chorley can make valuable progress in both these high calibre leagues. Obviously it is early days, but we have created a good start for 2014/15 and would wish for this support to not fade away as it did in 2012/13 & 2013/14. On behalf of the Chorley Club your committment and attendance of all athletes in all age groups is very appreciated.

Malc Christie finished the Red Rose XC race in an excellent 112th place but was omitted from the reports as he had entered himself under Clayton-le-Moors !!

Almost perfect running conditions greeted our first XC race of 2014/15 at Leigh where the U11 boys ran really well with superb runs from Daniel Lilley(7th) & Jack Hughes(9th) with back-up from Owen Kellett(48th), Harrison Lyons(49th) and Sam Prince(62nd) taking them into 5th team place just ahead of the U11 girls who also ran well to 6th team with Olivia Leigh(4th, the best Chorley finish of the day) supported by Lauren Prince(27th),Megan Wilson(37th), Isabelle Farron(39th), Blythe Cordwell(48th), Amy Heaton(55th), Erin Boardman(67th), Alysha Roberts(68th), Amber Boardman(85th) & Layla Alton(96th). The U13 boys also finished a team in 8th place with a group effort from Oliver Goldthorp(28th), Jacob Hughes(34th), Harry Wilson(40th) & Martin Rimmer(45th). The U13 girls would have been well placed if they had had another to support good runs from Caitlin McCarrick(11th) & Charlotte Lavin(38th). Poor Jack Wilson had no company in the U15s yet placed well in 26th place. Chorley's ladies of Lynne Clough(7th & 1st L45), Jane Bowles(74th), Lisa Johnston(76th), Karen Hancock(99th) & Christine Sweatman(111th) finished as 13th team but were the 8th vet team. Adam Critchley(45th), Keith Johnston(56th), Chris Lane(69th), Phil Iddon(73rd), Ainsley Murphy(91st), Bill Beckett(127th), Jonathan Burgess(131st), Mick Hancock(134th), Andrew Clough(139th), Paul Bass(140th) & Chris Charnley(160th) took Chorley to 12th team place with support from Dave Kershaw(175th), Steve Baker(177th), Paul Jackson(196th), Paul Wareing(200th) & Simon Townsend(224th). The final group saw a good return from serious illness for Barry Chester(239th), a first time run for Anthony Lloyd(242nd), Tom Hilton(244th), Adrian Smith(245th) & Eddie Murray(246th & 3rd V70). The vets however made 4th team Chorley's highest position of the day.

Trail running round-up...
Brothers Oliver and Tom Murphy enjoyed brilliant trail runs at Sunday's 2 mile junior event over at Gin Pit, finishing 5th (14:23) and 6th (14:35) respectively - good work lads!
Meanwhile, in the final senior race on the Central Lancs Grand Prix calendar, the Chorley team picked up more penalties for fielding an incomplete team and narrowly failed to hang onto their lead over the next nearest club in the competition, Radcliffe AC.
Ainsley Murphy was the first to complete the 5 miles for Team Chorley (36, 32:15) - feeling quite fresh after the previous day's exploits at cross country - followed by Michael Hendry further back (90, 36:05 PB). Christine Sweatman (167, 43:52) just managed to outpace Phillip McCullagh (169, 44:09), with both athletes wrapping up a successful weekend after Saturday's XC/race-walking events.

Race walker Phil McCullagh took pride of place in the Lancashire Walking Club's 10K Handicap race with a superb race to clinch 2nd place in 69:15. The hilly Macclesfield course is not for the feint hearted and Phil produced a scintillating performance to outdo club member International John Payn (4th/ 74:32) and surge ahead to claim silver.

Calling all Gin Pit trail runners...
Phil Iddon will be once again coordinating car sharing. Please meet at Flat Iron at 9.15am on Sunday (Senior race starts at 11am).
The 5 mile, 2 and a bit lap course is on the old mining tracks between Leigh and Tyldesley, it's mostly flat-ish but with a short climb at the start, middle and finish. Road shoes would be fine but there may be a few puddles. Info and course map below...

Big weekend for club competition coming up. Yes, autumn really has arrived as Saturday sees the first of this year's XC fixtures over at Leigh Sports Village.
Trail runners don't miss out either. We're hoping for a good turnout at Gin Pit for the 5 mile trail race on Sunday morning (11am start, junior fun run at 10am). This is the final race in this year's CLGP series, so let's go out on a high. Car sharing suggestions to follow...

Chorley once again fielded a team at the prestigious Ian Hodgson fell relay on 5th October.
This is a point to point fell relay that takes in the hills and mountains around Patterdale up to the Kirkstone pass and back covering 40km and 2450metres of climb in total. There are four legs with each leg run in pairs, giving a total of 8 runners.
Chorley's team consisted of Vicky Davison and Martin Quinn on leg 1, Malc Christie and Adam Critchely on leg 2, Lynne Clough and Tash Fellowes on leg3 with Yewan Bennison and Darren Fishwick completing the final leg. As the conditions were poor and visibility was restricted it took navigational skills and good fell craft to complete the legs by all team members and congratulations should go to all for finishing in a time of 5 hours 27 minutes and 42 seconds in 49th place.

The Rivington Half Marathon saw a good turnout of Chorley athletes participating, with Julian Goudge leading the way with a brilliant fourth placed finish.
Leading places were: 4 Julian Goudge 1:20:06, 19 Robert Walsh 1:28:37, 60 Michael Hancock 1:39:08, 72 Bill Beckett 1:41:06, back from injury in 128 Marie Boyle 1:49:54, 297 Janet Atkins 2:19:28 and 352 Tom Hilton 2:50:23. Apologies to any runner missed from this list

Just finished my first Tai Chi session by John Payn, and I would recommend it to anyone as a spot of complementary athletic training. Interested? Sessions run from 19:00 to 20:30 at Wheelton Village Hall on Wednesday evenings.

Chorley's race walker John Payn is back to his winning ways at the Scorton Race to Remember(8K) where the walk was on an undulating course going over Nicky Nook alongside the fell event. John beat his other 50+ competitors by a thumping 10 mins in a time of 1hr 15mins ; it is not known how many fell runners he also beat !

Three Chorley road runners headed out to Swinton on Sunday morning for this year’s penultimate CLGP fixture. The two-lap course around Salford won't win many accolades for the most attractive race on the calendar, running almost entirely alongside the city’s traffic-filled arterial routes. Nevertheless, Rob Walsh had a brilliant run to knock over 5 minutes off his personal best for the distance (1.02:17, 26th overall). Phil Iddon returned just a few minutes later (1.07:05), and I had a tougher time further back (1:21:28).
The team of Rob, Phil and I finished 20th. The closest club to us in the CLGP competition, Radcliffe AC, gained some ground by fielding more runners and so picking up fewer penalties. Overall standings look set to be determined at the final CLGP event, which is the 5 mile off-road trail race at Gin Pit on 12 October (11.00am start).

Well done to the 5 juniors who competed in today's final NW Series Triathlon. Jack Hughes finished an excellent 6th in T1, Jacob Hughes 9th and Henry Wilson 19th in T2. First timer Jack Hardman had an excellent race, finishing 10th, closely followed by Jack Wilson in 14th place in T3.
It's been a fantastic first season for Chorley Junior Triathlon section. Well done to ALL juniors who have given it a go, whether they compete in events or not. Cross country here we come! ;)

Only 3 Chorley athletes competed at the CLGP YMCA Blackleach Country Park(5) trail race on a busy weekend at Walkden, Manchester on a lovely day on a simple if narrow course. Phil Iddon(V40) ran well into 31st place leaving Phil McCullagh(144th & 2nd V55) though it was oddly Mike Coppin(188th) V70 who came away with a prize.
