Anyone missing the recent flurry of road races?

Don't despair, it's the fourth and final instalment of the 2014 Horwich Jubilee races on Wednesday evening - juniors (£3) 7.00 and seniors (£5) 7.30pm from Rivington village.

This one's not a grand-prix fixture, but a good local one to support.

A small but select group of Chorley runners mustered the enthusiasm to travel to Blackpool for the Airshow 10km race. Phil Iddon flew around the course in a nippy 39.37 (34th overall), supported by Laura Murphy (71, 7th lady, 43:02 - PB), Michael Hendry (100, 46:08) and Lee Childs (108, 46:52 - PB). Mark (Bondy) Bond opted to dress up for the occasion by completing the course in a flight suit - landing home in 176th, 54:05.

The club achieved excellent results at the British Masters Track and Field (in Birmingham). It was Gold and Silver for John Wright in the 200m and 100m respectively, boding well for the upcoming European Championships. Rick Cordwell managed to survive long enough to come home with a triple jump silver in the M35.

177 runners took part in the latest Cuerden Park run. Chorley's Rob Walsh, Chris Charnley and Ainsley Murphy(PB) were at the head of the field, finishing 7th, 8th and 9th respectively. Richard Farron ran a PB of 22.52, just a head of Michael Hendry, Mark Bond, Simon Townsend, and his daughter Isobelle who also achieving a PM of 25.56. John Minton just missed his PB.

he final 2014 Badger(10K) race in Cuerden Valley Park had a good contingent of Chorley athletes who came 2nd team narrowly failing to beat Preston. Despite racing the day before Robert Walsh(3rd V40) led Chorley home in 9th pushed by Martin Quinn(16th), Phil Iddon(19th), Johnathon Mattock(23rd) with further back Bill Beckett(40th) & Mark Bond(51st). David Miller(82nd) was just pipped to the V60 title by 15 secs trailed by Stephen Baker(92nd), Andy Lowe(96th) and new boy Daniel Bolton(129th). Chorley's final group had Phil McCullagh(187th) outstriding Christine Sweatman(190th) with the inevitable Tom Hilton(214th) & Mike Coppin(226th) the 1st & only V70.

Great UKA news Mike. And thanks go to yourself for helping organise and support the 3 events over the last week; plus the great 400m, 4x100m and 4x400m runs :)

I have to say a big thank you to all who turned out to help or run at the Chorley Inter-Club race this week with particular mention of Simon Townsend who has been a leader in all the 3 Chorley hosted events within the last 7 days. Also a thank you to all those who contributed food to the buffet which seemed to be very well received - there were only about 12 sandwiches or so left over - all the rest gone !! UKA emailed me a few days before to say they were going to inspect the race and its organisation, and the examiner went through our maps & marshal points, the licences, risk assessment etc before walking around the course during the race speaking to some of the marshals, medics and numerous runners and left at the end saying we would receive a 'clean' report - well done everybody.

Rob- not sure how official they are - can take a few days to confirm because of the slips etc - but I snaffled the following from somewhere:

Please can you put any time changes for junior sessions on the Facebook page as well please. Didn't realise the times had changed for Astley Park until we arrived half an hour late. :(

Is the running tonight at Astley Park still at 6.30 or is this at 6pm
2014-08-14

The Junior training at Astley Park tonight includes bike & transition training for those who want to bring their bikes. Meet in Hall Gate car park to start at 6pm with bike & helmet. Run training is available for those who don't want to bike as well.

Thanks everyone for such a well supported Astley Park event last night- marshals, runners, cake-makers, officials - all brill, and a good atmosphere.

A massive thanks to all marshals, officials, Chorleys' Angels and club members who created some fab grub; rounding off our 3rd hosted event in 7 days :)

Please can marshals for tonight's Interclub race meet in front of Astley Hall between 18:30 and 19:00. Thanks.

Hi Rob - Pennington Flash (5) is an open race (11.00am, 31 Aug) that you would need to register for beforehand, but on the day should be fine (I'll try to get hold of flyer with details).
There are only two more of the 'free, turn-up-and-run' interclub fixtures left in this year's calendar - tonight's Chorley race (7.30pm), and the Red Rose RR event in Leyland at 7pm on 3 September.
2014-08-12
Rob Walsh
Hi All, Is the 'Pennington Flash (5)'on the 31st August a turn up and run event or a pay event? Cheers
2014-08-12
Simon
It's the Interclub in Astley Park tomorrow (Wednesday); the last of the trio of events hosted by Chorley during the last 7 days. The race is open to any club member over the age of 14 and is free. We also need marshals on the night and food for the buffet after the race in the Barons Rest.

Opening the curtains on Sunday morning - with rain falling in stair rods - it was perhaps unsurprising that only a small group of Chorley runners mustered the enthusiasm to travel to Blackpool for the Airshow 10km race. Unfortunately, the team fell short of the requisite minimum number of runners for the fourth time this season, after being light at Bolton, Burnden and Radcliffe - but with with good turnouts at Haigh Hall, Horwich and Chorley.

Phil Iddon flew around the course in a nippy 39.37 (34th overall), supported by Laura Murphy (71, 7th lady, 43:02 - PB), me (100, 46:08) and Lee Childs (108, 46:52 - PB). Mark (Bondy) Bond opted to dress up for the occasion by completing the course in a flight suit - landing home in 176th, 54:05.

Elsewhere, veteran Chorley athlete Tom Hilton opted to tackle the Welcome tavern 10K race in nearby Preston, finishing in a very creditable 96th (64:53).

For your diary: the next Central Lancs Grand-Prix fixture is the 5 mile trail race at Pennington Flash, Leigh on Sunday 31 August. Meanwhile, of course, we have our interclub road-racing fixture this Wednesday at Astley Park, 7.30pm – see you there!

Outstanding Triathlete Joe Duckworth competed in Wales in the Erias 70.3+ Triathlon (1.2 mile swim 67 mile bike and 13 mile run). Producing an outstanding performance he described his achievements as "Had a good day, the sea was rough, bike ride windy and hilly but made up some time with a 1:23 run. I won the V40/45 cat by 15 minutes which really pleased me." Overall Joe finished third in a time of 5:31.

Some good results from the British Masters this weekend. Gold and silver for John Wright in the 200m and 100m respectively, boding well for the upcoming European Championships. Former Chorlean Ian Gouldthorpe bagged a gold in the M45 triple jump. I managed to survive long enough to come home with a triple jump silver in the M35.

Just a reminder that it is Chorle's hosting of the Inter-Club road race(4.7)on this Wed 13th Aug 19:30 at Astley Hall. The usual format no registration or fee just turn up and run. >14. We need all the runners, helpers & marshals we can muster please, and also the Baron's Rest have asked us to do our own buffet this year, so, can I ask that everyone brings a little contribution of sandwiches, cakes, pies, nibbles etc whatever you can. Thanks

WOW... what a great effort by Chorley team at NofE Track and Field athletics. As well as organising the event, we had to cover many events for other teams without officials, and the team came 3rd (with many PBs). Thanks to Mike C, Pat, Barbara, Stan, Glynn, Maureen, John P, Stephe, Stuart, Alan, Eluned, Ruth, Holly, Anya, Andrew, Bolu, Marco, Ryan, Adam, Simon and first aid cover by Chorleys' Angels.

Alison Leonard, a junior Chorley Harrier for several years before moving on to Blackburn, is competing in the heats of the 800 metres in the European Championships in Zurich next Wednesday (13th) morning (probably on Sky). Her mum is still connected with the club and was last seen helping with registration for our trail race on Wednesday of this week. Good luck Alison!

Just finished making up 60 pack lunches for tomorrow's NofE track and field event with Mike C and Anya :) Just been told that we cannot use the track side cabin (condemned) so we are at the mercy of the weather for doing the results all day :( Anybody fancy helping, competing or just watching would be most welcome tomorrow at Preston Arena.

The latest Harrock Hill(5.2) fell race on a very warm evening had 4 Chorley prizewinners of Lynne Clough(2nd L & 1st LV45), John Minton(1st V70), David Miller(2nd V60) & Laura Murphy(4th L). Mark Ellithorn(3rd V40) was the lead home athlete for Chorley, just in front of Chris Charnley followed by Lynne, Martin Quinn, Bill Beckett, Laura, Jonathan Burgess, Mark Bond, Michael McGeown & Paul Wareing finishing despite badly spraining his ankle. David fronted Michael Hendry & Stephen Baker chased by Andrew Lowe, Rachael Gibson, Gary Platt, Lisa Johnston, Steve Thomas & Graham Schofield. John crossed the line next before Les Paul, Tom Hilton & Mike Coppin. The next Harrock Hill race on Wed 27th August will be an Inter-Club affair where we will need a good field of athletes to secure our current winning position.

The first of the 3 events organised by Chorley on 7 days is complete. Next, the NofE Track and Field event on Saturday would welcome any help, support and competitors. Thanks to all the volunteers that have already offered, but we are short of some athletes as some of our guys are doing the National Masters instead.

Reminder to all senior road/trail runners…
In addition to Saturday’s track and field – details below - there’s a packed road/trail racing calendar over the next week or so. Hopefully there will be something for everyone here - all events are ideal for anyone to have a go at, from new club joiners to experienced racers and everyone in between…
Breathe in…

Wed 6 August (7.30pm, juniors 7pm) – Astley Park 4.4m trail race – runners and marshalls/cheerleaders much needed!! A large turn-out is expected from other clubs because this is a CLGP race – lets showcase our friendly and well supported club.

Thursday 7 August (7.30pm) – Badger run 10k trail race at Cuerden Valley – penultimate fixture in the Chorley club road/trail grand prix competition.

Sunday 10 August (11 am) – Blackpool Airshow 10km – flat road race along the promenade – register at Bispham Fire Station (FY2 9EA). This is another CLGP counter, so we need to field a team of at least 10 runners.

Wednesday 13 August (7.30pm) – Chorley interclub 4.9m – free trail/road race on our doorstep. Good opportunity to compete against local Lancashire teams. Just turn up and run!

Breathe out…
Happy running everyone!
