It is with great sadness I pass on the news that Stan Jewell's wife, Barbara, passed away peacefully this morning after several months of illness. There will be a small, quiet funeral for close family only.
Stan and Barbara have given so much to our club, and I wish to thank them for their hard work and friendship. I know many of our club members will be very sad about the loss of Barbara, and I have told Stan that we are here if he needs us.

We have recently learnt of Ted Orrell's death with great sadness.
Ted ran for Chorley for 25yrs or so until he moved to Clayton-le-Moor Harriers in the early 2000s. During the last few years, he has been suffering from Parkinson's disease. He died about a month ago and has now been buried with none of his compatriots in the running world being informed by his family.
For many years Ted and John Swift were the fastest marathoners in categories V70, V75 and V80. Ted also won many age-category medals, particularly at Cross Country and long-road races.

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Mel Blackledge. Mel was a long-standing member of our club and used to regular marshall at the Astley Trail Series. I often met him walking or running on trails around Chorley, and enjoyed his cheery chat and demeanour.
If I receive any more details about the funeral they will be posted here.

PS Worden junior parkrun is back on this week, so why not give it a try.

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of CAAT runner Henry Minorczyk on Monday. Henry was 75 years old but continued to run and cheerily support the club long into his later years.
A Requiem Mass will be at St Josephs RC Church on Thursday 26th January at 10:30, followed by an internment at Chorley Cemetry. There will be a later buffet at St Josephs Club. Everyone is welcome to the church and/or drinks afterwards.
Our thoughts are with his wife Ann and three sons at this difficult time.

Unfortunately, the FUNamentals and Foundation Session on Sunday 23rd January 2022 is cancelled for one week only due to a clash of diaries. Many athletes will be at Sportshall with Kevin and Simon will be in Birmingham at The National Running Show. However, if anyone fancies a junior parkrun (only 2k) please give Worden a try https://

The Interclub races are back on this year. Unfortunately, there will be no buffet after the races due to covid restrictions. Another new rule is that there will be no guest runners allowed.
I need the names and D.O.B (for age category) of anyone who wants to participate. For any new members the details of the Interclub series of races and dates are on the club website under Interclub, but basically it is a competition between 7 clubs with each club hosting a race.
If you have run the interclub races in the past, I don't need your D.O.B just confirmation that you are going to take part.
Anyone that has not done any of the races before can send your known first name, surname, date of birth and gender to sbee@blueyonder.co.uk and I will allocate a race number for you.

Good morning, we have received numerous reports over the last few days from motorists complaining that joggers are dressed in black and using the carriageway to run. As we cannot use gyms at the moment running , walking is our only form of exercise. However please stay safe especially this time of the year when the evening s are dark, wear bright coloured clothing , or neon clothing.Be seen, be safe.

To all club members, parents / guardians
As we expected, sadly it has been confirmed that all club activity is suspended through the 4 week lockdown. So we will have to suspend all training. As stated in the previous email, the coaches are looking to see what alternative arrangements we can make around on-line training and we will let you know. Please wait to hear from us as opposed to keep asking for updates. We have to see this as a small price relative to the potential consequences of the spread of the disease. Our role is to keep safe, protect those we can and help those in need - within the rules.

Rivington Pike and Good Friday Message
Every Good Friday thousands of people choose to celebrate Easter by visiting Rivington Pike on Good Friday. Each year UU support this day through the provision of staff on-site, toilets, litter collection, etc. However this year we want to persuade people to not visit the area to avoid so many people being in close proximity to one another with the present coronavirus situation.
We are in the process of contacting Silcocks who bring the fayre to ask them not to come and have been in touch with UUs comms dept to try and highlight the issues.
Any help people can offer to spread the word would be much appreciated.
Thank you and best wishes.

England Athletics have advised that all formal athletic activities (racing, training and meetings) should be postponed until at least the end of April 2020. Your club is following this advice and so all training sessions are cancelled with immediate effect. Sorry for the bad news.

As a result of the perceived threat from Covid-19 to our juniors and coaches, we have taken the decision to close all junior training based inside immediately. This includes Fundamentals and Foundation sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. For the moment training that is based outside will continue, but please do not attend if you are in any way unwell. We have a committee meeting on Wednesday18th March where we will consider what measures we will have to adopt going forward.

As a club we need to look at the current Coronavirus and other illnesses very carefully.
We need to ask all athletes and parents if they are feeling unwell in anyway to not attend training or large events.
This is in line with England Athletics and Public Health England.
There may be circumstances where we may need to cancel training and events at short notice. So please look out for messages on our website/Facebook/What’s App.
Hopefully this won’t happen and we hope everyone stays fit and well.
If in doubt then follow the guidelines set by Public Health England.
